Water Conservation Efforts
In 2019, Shoreview was honored with the Sustainable City Award by the League of Minnesota Cities for its Water Consumption and Groundwater Awareness Project. This initiative introduced a community conservation portal, enabling residents to monitor their water usage compared to similar households. During the project’s testing phase, residents collectively saved over 8 million gallons of water. Additionally, the city offers rebates for residents who upgrade to WaterSense-certified irrigation controllers or toilets, further encouraging water conservation.
Innovative Infrastructure
Shoreview has embraced innovative infrastructure solutions to manage stormwater and reduce environmental impact. The city has utilized permeable pavements in various road projects to effectively collect and infiltrate stormwater runoff, preventing flooding and erosion. Notably, in 2009, Shoreview completed one of the largest pervious concrete projects in North America at that time. Furthermore, the city’s maintenance center, remodeled in 2010, achieved LEED Gold certification, featuring sustainable elements such as a rainwater catch system that saves approximately 140,000 gallons of water annually.
Renewable Energy Initiatives
Demonstrating a commitment to renewable energy, Shoreview installed a solar array on the maintenance center’s roof in 2019. This installation supplies approximately half of the building’s energy needs, reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.

The Environmental Quality Committee (EQC) plays a pivotal role in engaging the community on environmental issues. The EQC hosts an annual Environmental Speaker Series, covering topics such as water quality, waste disposal, and sustainable practices.
